Pochampally, a cluster of villages near Hyderabad, gives the world its famous ikat: the yarn is tie-dyed before it is woven, so the pattern appears to bloom out of the cloth itself with soft, feathered edges. It is painstaking, mathematical work — and it is the heart of what we do. Tamil Nadu — Kanchipuram silk

From the temple town of Kanchipuram comes India’s most regal silk: heavy mulberry silk woven with pure zari, known for borders and pallus that are woven separately and joined so strongly the saree outlives the wearer. Gujarat — Patola and Bandhani
