Traditional Kerala White & Gold Kasavu Zari Cotton Silk Saree with Blouse Piece
A traditional Kerala kasavu saree — white with gold zari — worked in a designer cotton silk and supplied with a blouse piece.
Kasavu means the gold border itself, not the saree. The name comes from the zari, and everything else about the garment — the off-white ground, the simplicity, the absence of any competing colour — exists so that band of gold is the only thing the eye goes to.
That restraint is why it has outlasted every trend in South Indian dress. There is nothing in a kasavu to date it, which is also why it suits a mother and a daughter standing next to each other on Onam morning without either looking out of place.
