The colours of a deepam flame — bright saffron-orange at the heart, deep red at the edge — with silver scattered across it like the first stars on Deepavali night. That is the whole idea behind this saree, and it makes it a natural choice for the season of lamps, from Deepavali through Karthika Deepam to Sankranti.
The orange body, kesari as it is fondly called, is woven completely with silver kadwa butis — each motif worked in individually on the handloom, so it sits neat and firm with no loose threads behind. The pallu answers in a contrast of deep kumkuma red, richly woven in silver. Being Uppada silk, it is remarkably light for a festive pattu, so you can sit through a long puja or a wedding muhurtham in complete comfort.
It comes with a designer blouse piece for a finished, occasion-ready look. Silver or oxidised jewellery and a string of jasmine complete it beautifully. Handwoven, one piece only.
