Brown & White Pochampally Double Ikat Pure Silk Saree — Kalamkari Border, 6.3 m with Blouse
A brown and white pure Pochampally double ikat silk saree finished with a Kalamkari border, 6.3 metres with blouse piece.
Brown is the least common colour on a Pochampally loom and the most underrated. It sits closer to the natural tones the earliest dyers worked with — before synthetic colours arrived, browns and rusts were what the madder root and the iron mordants actually gave you — and against white it produces a saree that reads as understated rather than plain.
Two different crafts meet here: ikat in the body, Kalamkari along the border. One is a dye-before-weaving technique, the other a print-after technique, and putting them on the same saree is an unusual choice.
