An orange and green Pochampally sico silk saree in the traditional ikat weave, 6.3 metres with a blouse piece.
Sico is a silk-cotton handloom: silk for the sheen, cotton for the breath. It is the fabric most Pochampally weavers recommend if you want a saree for regular use rather than for the almirah — it looks like silk in photographs and behaves like cotton on a long day.
Orange and green in the traditional ikat layout is about as Telangana as a saree gets. The two colours are worked into the weave rather than printed on, so the reverse of the cloth carries the same pattern as the front.
