Why deep blue, when everyone else is in red?
Because a festival hall is already full of red and maroon, and deep blue is the one colour that reads as rich rather than merely different. It holds gold better than almost anything — far better than black, which flattens it — and it does not wash out under the warm, low light that every Indian function is lit by.
What the patola grid is doing here
Stepped diamonds and banded borders across the body, printed in the patola idiom, with gold zari carried over the ground so the blue is never a dead block of colour. The designer Patola pallu takes the heavier massing of pattern, which is where the eye lands on a seated drape.
Woven or printed?
Printed. We say so on every one of these. A loom-woven patola is a six-figure saree and a six-month wait; this is the pattern language on soft silk, priced so you can own blue as well as red.
The practical bit
6.3 m including the plain blouse piece. Soft silk — light on the shoulder, takes a sharp pleat, drapes without being pressed first. Dry clean only; store folded in cotton, not plastic.
