Pedana Kalamkari Hand-Block Soft Silk Saree in Deep Red with Green Designer Pallu & Gold Border

Red body, green pallu, gold border. It is one of the oldest colour arrangements in south Indian weaving, and it survives because it works — the green stops the red from going heavy, and the gold edge keeps the two from arguing.

What is printed on it is Pedana Kalamkari: hand-block work from Pedana, a small town near Machilipatnam where this craft has been worked for generations. Blocks are cut by hand, colour is laid in passes, and no two lengths come out identical. That is the point of buying hand-block rather than mill-printed.

The base is soft silk — light enough to wear through a full-day wedding, with enough fall that the pleats sit without help. 6.3 m including the blouse piece.
