How does a silk saree weigh so little and still carry so much zari? The answer lies in Uppada — and in a technique called kadwa. In kadwa weaving, each buti is worked into the cloth separately by hand on the loom, with no loose threads floating behind it. Every motif sits firm and clean, front and back, the mark of patient, skilled handloom work.
Here the kadwa butis are woven completely in silver across a mehendi green body — the deep, earthy green of freshly ground gorintaku on a bride's palms. Against it, the pallu turns to a striking contrast of royal blue, richly woven in silver. Green and blue with silver throughout: cool, elegant and unusual.
A plain blouse piece keeps the look clean and classic. Wear it for a mehendi or haldi, a seemantham, Sankranti, or Karthika Deepam at the temple. Handwoven, one piece only.
