Marigold strung across a doorway. A diya seen through a window from the street. That is this saree's palette, and it is not an accident that it is also the palette of the festival itself.
Orange into red is a heat you cannot fake with any other pairing. The red pallu does not fight the orange body, it deepens it — the whole drape stays inside one warm family from the first pleat to the end of the pallu, which is why it reads as rich rather than loud.
The patola motifs are handprinted, so the diamonds carry the slight unevenness of a hand-pulled block instead of the dead uniformity of a machine run. Look closely at the border and you can see where the hand was.
Cotton silk, 6.3 m including the 0.8 m designer blouse piece — light enough to wear from the pre-dawn oil bath through to the evening puja, and it holds a sharp pleat all the way.
Dry clean the first wash. Keep it out of long sunlight so the orange stays bright.
Orange goes first every season. Order at srimanishasarees.com or come to Abids.
