How do I know a Pochampally silk saree is genuine?
Look at the motif edges: true ikat has a soft, feathered blur because the pattern is dyed into the yarn, while prints have hard edges. Genuine handloom also shows the pattern on the reverse side almost as clearly as the front.
What is the difference between single and double ikat?
In single ikat only the weft (or only the warp) is resist-dyed. In double ikat both are, and the weaver aligns them on the loom — far more difficult, far more valuable.
