An orange base crossed by red stripes, with floral weaving running between them. Bold on the bolt, surprisingly wearable once it is cut — the stripes give the eye somewhere to rest.
Banarasi handloom silk, woven on a handloom rather than a power loom, which is why the surface has that slight irregularity good silk should have. Stripe-and-floral combinations demand constant attention at the loom, since the weaver is managing two patterns at once.
Wears beautifully as: a festive kurta, a long jacket, or a saree blouse paired with a plain silk drape.
How much to order: 2.5 metres for a kurta, 3 metres with full sleeves, 2 metres for a blouse and dupatta.
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in cotton cloth, out of direct light.
